Guide: EV charger cost
The charger is only part of the installation price
Cable length, parking position, consumer-unit work and your electricity supply can move the quote more than the badge on the charge point.

What should be itemised
- 01Charge-point make, model and power rating.
- 02Tethered or socketed cable arrangement.
- 03Cable route and total cable length.
- 04Wall mounting, pedestal or other fixing.
- 05Consumer-unit and protective-device work.
- 06Earthing arrangements.
- 07Load-management hardware.
- 08Network notification or application where required.
- 09Commissioning, app setup and certification.
- 10Any trenching, ducting or making-good work.
The property can cost more than the charger
A straightforward wall-mounted unit beside the consumer unit is a very different job from a charger at the far end of a detached garage with a long cable route and electrical upgrades. Make sure two quotes describe the same installation before comparing the total.
If you do not have off-street parking, use the charger without driveway calculator before buying equipment. The pavement or parking solution can decide whether the project makes financial sense at all.
Features worth paying for only if you will use them
- Solar-surplus charging.
- Supplier or tariff integration.
- Dynamic load management.
- A longer tethered cable.
- Multiple-user access controls.
- A separate pedestal or detached-garage installation.
